The first photo shows the chassis when most parts were assembled. The front springs are replaced by 2 inch copper tubing, cut to the right length to get the normal ride height that I would like to get in the end.

I had to cut out a piece of the front cross member since the power steering rack would not fit. After cutting, I formed a piece if sheet metal in an arc and welded it back in the hole I created. You can see on the second picture how close the steering spindle is to the cross member.

Time to get the new crate engine ready and into the chassis. By this time, Wim had joined me to help me get the car finished. Wim has a background as car mechanic, and his experience was invaluable to solve difficult issues. Wim had also been starting a project years back in Holland with a Chevy 54 pickup, and we have a special section on this website for that project. The engine is a 350ci crate engine and will be able to produce about 230hp. This will be a very good street engine, nice idle and enough power to move this old coffin reasonably well.

First the chassis went to the painter. All the old holes had been welded and smoothed.

And this is how nice it looked when painted. PPG grey metallic.

All the chassis parts are there.
This goes fast! Soon ready!

The Mustang 2 front suspension from TCI. It was a nice fit on the frame, only minor adjustments.
