So, it is December 2000 and my Chevy 35 has finally managed to get through the customs on Curacao. It was not easy for the customs officials to accept that the freight from Sweden to Curacao was about 5 times as high as the purchase value of the car. While the Chevy was “en route” I found a very nice and helpful Street Rod Company in Tennessee. Michael and Rose at Street Rods by Michael, www.srbymichael.com helped me to put together a shopping list for engine, suspension, rear end, brakes, etc etc. And shipped it all to Curacao. Well, most of my friends in Curacao had by this time decided that I was nuts and were just nicely smiling at me when I described this “project”. What they said behind my back is easy to guess! In March 2001, I started the disassembly of the old frame, and trying out the new parts. The frame was nicely arranged in a home made jig, all according to the books, in order to get everything straight. The new front is a Mustang 2 design from TCI with disc brakes. The rear is a Ford 9 bolt with drum brakes. New blade springs in the back and coils in the front. The steering is a power steering rack and a column from Ididit. Engine is a Chevy 350, 230 horses into a TH350 automatic gear box. New stainless steel fuel tank from Rock Valley, new aluminum radiator from G, A/C from Vintage Air. So, it is just one small detail; it has all to be put together….. |
