Camaro RS 1972 Re-Build
project
(Started March 2008)
Project start
Finally it was time to start this project.
I had spent months studying magazines and websites to find out what was
available and how I wanted my Camaro.
This is how I have
planned it:
Motivation
- Engine: LS1 from Camaro 2002
- Transmission: 4L60E fram same Camaro
- Aluminium radiator with dual electric fans
Front Suspension
- Front frame stub: Fatman Fabrications
- Front suspension: Fatman tubular polished Stainless Steel with 2 inch
lowered spindles and coilovers
- Front brakes: Wilwood 13" superlight with 6 piston caliphers and
slotted and drilles rotors
- One inch heavy duty sway bar
- Rack and pinion steering
Rear suspension:
-Ridetech 4-link with polished coils and separate shocks
-Wilwood disc brakes with slotted and drilled rotors
Exhaust
- Stainless 3" system
Wheels and tires
- American Racing TorqThrust II
- Front 17x8 with 235/40/17 tires
- Rear 17x9.5 with 265/35/17
Body
- New steel hood with 2.5 inch scoop
- New small style rear spoiler
- All new glass except rear window which is good
Interior
- Other bucket seats from a modern car (still to be found)
- New instrument pad with new instruments
- Modern rollup safety belts
- Vintage Air A/C and heater
Paint
- Still not decided, but perhaps a two color combination

Before the assualt started... Looks too good to mess with...

First take off the hood....
|

then the fenders....
|
|
|
|
|
then disconnect the drive shaft and cut the fuel line...
|
|
|
|
...drain the brake fluid and disconnect the front lines...
|
|
|
|
.. and remove 4 bolts which hold the front frame to the body...
|
|
|
|
|
.. and get the darn steering shaft disconnected...
|
|
|
|
...and then slide apart...
|
|
|
|
...and the front separates nicely from the body...
|
|
|
|
|
..easy as 1 - 2 -----
|
|
|
|
---- 3....
|
|

|
...and time for a well-earned break...Impressive work by the local Rotary board members. (this was a test of their capabilities, and they all passed!)
