Restoration project Buick 3
Converting front suspension to Air Ride

This is what the original suspension looked like

The top spring mount and shock mount

Lower spring plate and hole for sway bar link

Upper shock mount

Lower bump stop

A-arms removed and bolts with shims

Picture from RideTech. This should be the end result!

This is the cutout needed to be done (pix RideTech)

This is the new lower shock mount. A new bracket needs to be manufactured. This did not come with the kit from RideTech (pix RideTech)

New top mount for air bag (pix RideTech)

Ready to start cutting!

This is the cut to be done. I used a cutting wheel. and then cleaned up with an angle grinder.

First, the rivets holding the plate to the arm has to be drilled and pressed out. (not easy!)

Do NOT remove the ball joint when pressing out the rivets and removing the plate! A big risk that it changes shape!

The rivets are out and the a-arms painted and ready to assemble again

The lower ball joints

Metal treated with Fertran to neutralize rust

The frame and upper arm cleaned and painted

Here are the bags ready to go in

Here is the new top bracket for the shock tacked, and the new lower shock bracked mocked up

Lower shock bracket

Lower shock bracket

Almost ready!

Lower shock mount

Upper shock mount

Ready!

And the compressor, valves and senders mounted on a board. This will go in the trunk behind the soft top bag
